Now Accepting Applications for the 2008 Imperial County Farm Bureau Scholarship Program!

Each year, the Imperial County Farm Bureau presents local students with scholarships to aid them in their studies. The scholarship fund is supported by donations and our annual Farm Bureau Scholarship Barbecue, held annually in April.

Applications must be received at the Farm Bureau office by 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 16.





Congratulations to the following students who were selected to receive scholarships during 2007.

Imperial County Farm Bureau Scholarship

Jessica Thompson 
Jessica Thompson will be entering her third year at UC Davis. Jessica is actively involved in the Animal Science program at UC Davis, and hopes to become a veterinarian.


Taylor Brady
Taylor Brady is a student at Holtville High School who will be entering Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall. Taylor has been actively involved in 4-H and FFA in Holtville, and hopes to become involved in the Bioresource and Ag Engineering program at Cal Poly..



Garrett Bishop

Garrett Bishop is currently studying Crop Science and Ag Business at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Garrett has been actively involved in Cal Poly’s Ag Council and has served as Council Vice President.


Andrew Leimgruber
Andrew Leimgruber is a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he is studying Ag Business. Andrew operates a hay brokerage in San Luis Obispo and hopes to return to Imperial Valley after college to begin his own farming operation.


Joseph Claverie
Joseph Claverie has been actively involved in the Calexico FFA, even serving as the Southern Region Vice President. Joseph will be entering his first year at UC Davis this fall.


Kelly Bishop

Kelly Bishop is a third-year student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, studying Ag Science, with an emphasis in Ag Education and Communications. Kelly is a writer for the Cal Poly College of Ag’s student magazine, Ag Circle.



Allison McMillan

Allison McMillan is a Dairy Science major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Allison has been active in rodeo throughout her life, and hopes to use her education to enter a career in animal nutrition.



In addition to our own scholarship, Imperial County Farm Bureau has also been entrusted with the management of two additional scholarships, created to honor local agricultural leaders Matthew J. LaBrucherie and Vern Highley. Each of these scholarship funds are supported solely through donations from the local community. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to receive scholarships from the Matthew LaBrucherie Scholarship and Vern Highley Scholarship Funds this year.


Matthew LaBrucherie Scholarship


Vanessa Muro

Vanessa Muro will be attending UC Davis this fall, where she will work toward her goal of becoming a veterinarian. At Imperial High School, Vanessa was an active member of FFA and served as the Class of 2007 class president.


Vern Highley Scholarship


Bryce Smith
Bryce Smith will enter Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall where he will major in Biological Resources and Ag Engineering. Bryce recently graduated from Brawley Union High School where he maintained a 4.18 GPA. Bryce will be the first of his family to attend college.
 

Annabel Mohamed 
Annabel Mohamed is an active athlete and recent graduate from Brawley Union High School. She was named the Elks Teen of the Month in February 2007. This fall, Annabel will enter Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.


Brett Mamer
Brett Mamer is the 2007 Salutatorian from Brawley Union High School. Brett has been involved in M&M 4-H for several years, where he has acted as a junior teen leader for multiple projects. Brett will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall.
